Holbein Artists' Watercolor Pencils feature the same color tones as found in Holbein Artists' Watercolors, beloved by watercolorists world-wide since 1946. Both color lines share the same color reference numbers permitting easy integration of between both lines.
Thick Lead and Non-Rolling Hexagonal Shaft for Easy Drawing and Storage

The 3.8mm diameter core enables you to cover large areas efficiently with loads of pigment. The 7.9mm hexagonal shaft is comfortable to hold and reduces hand fatigue.
Moderate Hardness

We have imporved and balanced the drawing experience with the hardness (strength) of the Holbein Artists' Watercolor Pencil Lead. Through extensive trial and error in formulation and in manufacturing, we have achieved an ideal watercolor pencil lead between soft and medium-hard, providing a comfortable drawing experience with superior water solubility.
Excellent Lightfastness

Only high-quality artist grade pigments are used to ensure vibrant, brillaint colors that will resist fading or change due to normal light exposure, making them suitable for long-term preservation of artwork.

- Holbein Artists' Watercolor Pencils produced beautiful colors, whether I mixed them and then dissolved them with water or layered more colors on top of the dissolved areas. This allowed me to create the exact shades I wanted. I also use Holbein transparent watercolors and was delighted to find that they include some of my favorite colors, such as Indigo, Cobalt Blue Hue, and Turquoise. It’s wonderful that the colors and their numbers are consistent across both products! For the cat’s eyes in my painting, I used these colors. I dissolved them with water to achieve a transparent effect, then added depth by drawing in more details with thin, pointed watercolor pencils.

- I think the fun of Holbein Artists' Watercolor Pencils lies in their ability to combine the best aspects of both Holbein Artists' Watercolors and the Holbein oil-based Colored Pencil line. I really enjoyed using them with water to create the transparency of watercolor and using them dry to add texture. Since the set includes the same colors as found in Holbein Artists' Watercolors, it offers many shades that aren’t available in the Holbein oil-based Colored Pencil line, which is very appealing. Leaf Green, in particular, is a bright and vivid yellow-green that I highly recommend for painting young leaves. Next time, I plan to draw vibrant flowers using my favorite Opera color.

- The technique of painting while dissolving the core of Holbein Artists' Watercolor Pencils directly with a brush is very easy to do and apply, permitting me to freely express myself with solid colors and nuanced blurring. I am also very pleased that the colors match those found in the Holbein Artists' Watercolor line!! It’s also exciting to enjoy watercolor painting with good flexibility, such as mixing colors directly from the watercolor pencil lead with a brush filled with water. This, when used in combination with Holbein Artists' Watercolor, makes the painting experience even more enjoyable.
